Language is the foundation for all social interactions and is necessary at all stages of learning. Young Presidians of Grade 2 were trained to use Positional words (or positional language) which are words and phrases that describe the position of people or objects. Examples would be the words ‘in’, ‘under’, and ‘over’, ‘near’, ‘behind’, ‘above’, ‘below’ etc. It is something that students encounter on a daily basis in play-based learning and also in any structured games or activities. Positional words help learners relate to where they are in the world around them and understand how objects relate to one another. Presidians related the words to their immediate surroundings and shared the position of objects, people, animals, etc. around them under the teacher’s guidance and got hold of correct vocabulary with a lot of creativity and energy. This activity was designed to support students’ understanding of position and movement to develop skills in giving simple directions and helping support their contextual understanding.
