PRESIDIANS SHOWCASE THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF THE THEME ‘TRAVEL’
Theme Based Learning (TBL) is a powerful instructional method that makes concepts easy to comprehend. It uses real life experiences in such a manner, that children easily immerse themselves in learning. Each theme ends with culmination, in which children showcase their learning to their parents, teachers or classmates. Students of grade 2, recently culminated the theme 'Travel'. They demonstrated their understanding of the various concepts covered under this theme; such as essential things for travelling, various purposes of travel, information òn tickets, different modes of transport etc. They shared their experience of various visits and journeys. This theme gave them an opportunity to recall their journey and events that happened while travelling. Students were able to build the understanding that the cost of tickets, facilities offered distance and time taken are the factors that influence the means and modes of travel. Students culminated this theme by showing their photo albums to their friends, making a collage, drawing their dream vehicle and shared about with it in the class.
TBL THEME CELEBRATIONS: LEARNING ABOUT THE FESTIVALS OF INDIA
“The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.” - Oprah Winfrey
Students of grade 1 conducted a Culmination activity of Theme Based Learning on the topic ‘Celebration’. Celebrations are a brilliant and joyful way to teach children about the moral, ethical and social values of life and to be together with kin and friends, learn about rituals, food, decoration and having endless fun. The greatness of a culture can be found in its festivals. It is a happy feature that in India we share the pleasures of celebrating festivals of several communities. So our budding Presidians got the opportunity to present information about religious festivals like Diwali, Holi, Rakshabandhan, Eid, Gurunanak Jayanti and National festival like Republic Day, Independence Day etc and thus cemented the spirit of national integration too. They were delighted to make Rangolis and had a lot fun as they enacted skits on different occasions. It was a great learning experience for students.

Students of grade 1 had a wonderful time while witnessing and playing at the artificial beach constructed at the school premises, as we conducted an activity to introduce the new theme Sea. The aim of this activity was to make students curious about sea and sea life. Through this outdoor activity, students could connect and enjoy imagining what it would be like at the beach and explored the sea and had a fun filled engagement at sea inspired pretend play like making sand castles, collecting shells etc. This innovative activity helped students enrich their mind and learn new concepts in a very interesting way.
