STUDENTS LEARN THE ART OF SHARING THEIR FEELINGS

06-07-2021

“Feelings are much like waves, we can’t stop them from coming, but we can choose which one to surf.” – Jonathan Martensson

Feelings and emotions are a gift to us and one of the things that makes humans different from other species. To make our students understand the importance of expressing themselves, a topic related to ‘feelings’ under Lifeskills was taken up with Students of Grade 2. Students understood that it is very natural to feel happy or sad, angry or scared! It is also important for them to think about why they feel in a certain way. If they think about what it is that makes us feel like we do, we can then try to control our reactions. Students shared their feelings with peer group, and teachers with ease. There followed a fruitful discussion on anger management and managing their feelings especially in the difficult times of Covid, when students were not able to play outside, share with friends, general feeling of being bored, and productive utilization of time at home.

STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT THE DIFFERENT WAYS OF PRESERVING FOOD

05-07-2021
While humans require food all year, many factors affecting food availability are beyond their control, such as climate and natural life processes, so food preservation is required to ensure the quality and longevity of food. In the subject PBL, under the theme Food Preservation, students of Grade 5 participated in finding ways to preserve food items, ranging from early methods of salting, pickling, and dehydration to more recent pasteurization techniques, food additives, etc. and freezing. Prior to exploring, students were first engaged in observing and predicting what happens to the various food items over time, such as What changes did they notice? What were the environmental conditions (light, heat, and water) that affected food? Subsequently, students were encouraged to conduct interviews with their parents and grandparents as well as gather information on Google to investigate food preservation methods. This project was perfect for assisting our fifth-grade students in exploring scientific methods of research on Food Preservation methods.
